Oxford
is a Oakland County Main Street Community!
On September
22, 2004, Oxford became an Oakland County Main Street Community. Main
Street Oakland County is an economic development program specifically
targeted to provide technical assistance to the 30 traditional downtowns
in Oakland County. Main Street Oakland County is housed within the planning
group of the Planning & Economic Development Services Division of
Oakland County’s Department of Community & Economic Development.
Main Street Oakland County is a partner with the National Main Street
Center, a program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
As a Main Street Community, the Oxford DDA receives advice, help and
services from Main Street Oakland County and the National Main Street
Center. The Main Street program’s success is based on a comprehensive
strategy that is tailored to local needs and opportunities. This strategy
is known as the Main Street Four Point Approach, and it consists of
establishing four committees to set goals and develop strategies to
revitalize the downtown. The four committees are Organization, Design,
Promotions and Economic Restructuring, and they are made up of volunteers
who help the DDA Board make decisions about the downtown.
